We are in the process of changing our 4-H group around a bit.  We will be
putting together a private riding group and still show our livestock under 4-H.
We are going to the Caruthers fair this year.  There will be pictures soon.

Our 4-H livestock program focuses on management not winning.  We
believe that the kids benefit more from learning to manage wisely and
efficiently to be able to support their projects year after year.  We do not ask
for top offs or ridiculous amounts per lb for our animals.  We do not starve or
dehydrate our animals to make weight.  That is where smart management
comes in.  Our kids will be able to answer the following questions:

  What is your daily gain?
  What is your daily cost?
What is your projected total cost?
  What is your projected profit?
What is your ideal weight three weeks before fair time?

A blue ribbon and a big check do not mean much if you don't know what it
took to get there. Livestock projects can teach so many things that kids can
use in life.  Its up to us to teach it.  I would rather my 4-H kids  come out with
life tools rather than ribbons.
